Don't Take It Personally

I was reading a blog entry by Seth Grodin http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2011/05/how-else-are-you-supposed-to-take-it.html and I was thinking how true it is. It may be difficult at times to not take it personally, but if someone is criticizing you, your work or both, it isn't about you, it is about them and thier decision, thier opinion. Knowing the difference between constructive criticism or critiquing and simple criticism (judging) helps. I was told recently that I am boring since I do talk about my business via social media. My business is not a 9 to 5 job, I am self employed. Market and promoting myself is a must, my name and brand do not just happen to appear in our world and make money, I have to do the work. Photo shoots, selling at art shows and galleries, commissions and stock photos, there is research, applications, letters, emails, phone calls, etc......is all part of it. Meeting and talking with others, networking, is a great tool too. Being in business for yourself means that thoughts, ideas are continuously rolling and being processed.

So next time you feel as though someone is criticizing you, just keep in mind that you are doing the best you can and keep moving forward!
